This event will be an online livestream event. The link will be communicated in advance via newsletter and the members area on our website. It is also possible to attend in person and watch the JC with other APRA members at CREA (Nieuwe Achtergracht 170, room 3.12). Make sure to be there on time!

For our 25th Journal Club we are joined by Manoj Doss, who will be discussing his paper "Cinco Sins of Psychedelic Science" (preprint).

Manoj Doss (PhD) is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic & Consciousness Research. He completed his PhD at the University of Chicago broadly researching distortions in episodic memory with a focus on the effects of psychoactive drugs such as MDMA, THC and alcohol on emotional episodic memory (advised by Professors David Gallo and Harriet de Wit). In his postdoc, he is interested in the cognitive, emotional and neural mechanisms of psychedelic drugs.

Manoj has been outspokenly critical about several research practices and theoretical frameworks within the field of psychedelic science, including the dominance of resting-state fMRI measurements and the correlating of brain entropy measures to the psychedelic experience. In his article “Cinco Sins of Psychedelic Science”, Manoj reflects on five research practices in the field of psychedelic science which should be regarded with more scrutiny, or be done away with altogether.
Prepare for an evening full of interesting discussion!
