Kenan de Leeuw

Kenan de Leeuw

Chair of the Board

Kenan de Leeuw is the chair of APRA, where he has been an active member since 2019. He has a background in clinical neuropsychology and works as a psychologist and researcher at Jellinek Amsterdam, where he treats patients suffering from addiction and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. He primarily works with Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and trauma-informed mindfulness practices. Currently he is leading a research project for a pilot study investigating Psilocybin-assisted ACT (PACT) as a novel, integrative treatment for severe alcohol use disorder. Kenan has a broad interest in psychoactive drugs and non-ordinary states of consciousness, the neuropsychology of addiction, intersections between psychotherapy and Buddhist philosophy and therapeutic use of music. Finally, he is an advocate for progressive drug policy and harm reduction initiatives.

Emily Duckett

Emily Duckett

Vice Chair / Treasurer

Emily Duckett serves on the board of APRA as Treasurer and Head of Events. She completed a Research Master’s in Linguistics and Communication from the University of Amsterdam. While she is broadly interested in psychoactive substances and altered states of consciousness, she is particularly fascinated by the intersection of language, psychedelic experience, and AI. She aims to pursue research using natural language processing tools to develop better methods for measuring and understanding these experiences, in order to deepen scientific understanding and explore their potential to enhance well-being. Emily also has experience working at House of Smart, providing her with practical knowledge of psychedelic use and harm reduction in a smartshop setting.

Stijn Janssens

Stijn Janssens

Secretary

Stijn Janssens serves as Secretary of the Board of APRA. He is a student of psychology with a strong interdisciplinary interest in philosophy of mind, metaphysics, phenomenology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence and religious studies. He is interested in altered states of consciousness as an experimental tool to apply and investigate concepts that have previously been very difficult to study or manipulate. His interest in psychedelics mainly stems from these fundamental questions, examining what such experiences reveal about consciousness, the self, and reality. In his free time, Stijn likes to create interdisciplinary video essays on topics ranging from comparative religion and mathematics to ancient Greek intertextuality and the archaeology of the Western Sahara. He also enjoys listening to, playing and composing classical music.

Rayna Horn

Rayna Horn

General Board Member

Rayna Horn is a General Board Member at APRA. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and plans to follow a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. In the meantime, she works as a psychedelic guide during preclinical research into psychedelic substances at the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden and has recently begun training to become a yoga teacher at Arhanta Yoga. Rayna is deeply fascinated by psychedelics and (altered states of) consciousness and is especially drawn to the intersection of research and therapy, with an interest in both understanding how these substances work and also in how they can be responsibly implemented into therapeutic practice. Her future goal is to facilitate psychedelic-assisted therapy grounded in holistic and interdisciplinary methods, by making use of techniques such as breathwork, yoga and meditation, to really focus on the person and their experiences as a whole. She also likes to discuss politics, loves to spend time in nature and adores cats.
Philip Nijman

Philip Nijman

Philip has a strong passion for continuous growth through acquiring new skills and perspectives, and deeply appreciates nature, which he expresses by building aquaria and terraria. Additionally, he created psychedelic-inspired art and music as “ICU”.
