For this event, Óscar Soto-Angona (MD) will be giving a lecture about how Buddhist principles can help us understand our minds on psychedelics.
This event will take place at CREA Cafe in Room 3.14 on Wednesday 15th of February at 19:00.
We’d like to note that the event will take place physically but the lecturer will give their lecture online. As always, there is room for drinks and discussion afterward!
Abstract
“There is no Spoon, or How Buddhist Principles Can Help Us Understand our Mind on Psychedelics”
In this presentation, and drawing from my experience treating Treatment Resistant Depression, I intend to describe the similarities between the Buddhist and the scientific understanding of our mind, and how they can shape a more meaningful clinical practice. Furthermore, I will propose future guiding principles in order to use such similarities to inform the direction in research for effective treatments. Buddhist ideas, if used within a self-critical,scientific paradigm, can also become powerful tools in solving philosophical problems that hold the key to understanding our own nature, such as the Hard Problem of Consciousness.
