Microdosing with psychedelics is the practice of taking small (i.e., 10-20% of a dose that typically induces psychedelic effects) repeated doses of a psychedelic substance such as LSD or psilocybin over a period of - [Psilocybin trial at UMC Utrecht](https://apra.science/psilocybin-trial-at-umc-utrecht/) - UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands has started recruitment for the Compass Pathways-sponsored phase 3 trial of psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT) for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This will be the second phase 3 trial initiated by the biotech company, which recently announced positive results from its initial multi-center trial of PAT for TRD. Besides UMC Utrecht, recruitment is - [Ethnoracial inclusion in clinical trials of psychedelics](https://apra.science/ethnoracial-inclusion-in-clinical-trials-of-psychedelics/) - Despite increasing awareness of the need for diversity in clinical research, psychedelic studies have shown limited ethnoracial representation. A systematic review of 39 studies on psychedelic treatments for psychiatric or substance use disorders, published between January 1, 1994, and May 24, 2024, highlights this ongoing issue. The review, including 16 studies (n = 282) from - [Participate: The role of memories in psychedelic experience](https://apra.science/participate-the-role-of-memories-in-psychedelic-experience/) - Are you planning to take a psychedelic in the next few weeks in any context? (2023) explores alternative administration methods for ayahuasca's principle psychoactive components, specifically DMT and harmine. It appears to show promising implications for the future of clinical ayahuasca research. By developing a combined buccal (oral mucosa) and intranasal (nasal) administration approach, the researchers aimed to address challenges associated with traditional oral - [Extended difficulties following the use of psychedelic drugs](https://apra.science/extended-difficulties-following-the-use-of-psychedelic-drugs/) - A recently published study by Evans et al. (2023) has investigated long-term psychological distress following the use of psychedelic drugs. Long-term adverse experiences following psychedelic use can persist for weeks, months, or even years, and are relatively unexplored in psychedelic research. This mixed-method study which included data from 608 participants reports that most common forms - [Trait mindfulness and personality characteristics in a microdosing ADHD sample](https://apra.science/trait-mindfulness-and-personality-characteristics-in-a-microdosing-adhd-sample/) - This study explores the effects of microdosing psychedelics on mindfulness and personality traits in adults diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or experiencing severe ADHD symptoms. The research, conducted over 4 weeks with 233 participants, indicates that microdosing led to increased trait mindfulness, specifically in the aspects of describing and non-judging inner experiences, while - [First clinical trial results on psilocybin for anorexia nervosa](https://apra.science/first-clinical-trial-results-on-psilocybin-for-anorexia-nervosa/) - Earlier this week, the first-ever clinical trial results of a study investigating the effects of psilocybin on females with anorexia nervosa (AN) were published in Nature Medicine. It concerns a phase I open-label feasibility study (N=10) which investigated the effects of a single dose of psilocybin (25mg) on adult female participants diagnosed with AN or - [The Market of Non-Hallucinogenic Psychedelics](https://apra.science/the-market-of-non-hallucinogenic-psychedelics/) - [et_pb_section admin_label=”section”] [et_pb_row admin_label=”row”] [et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”] Patentable molecules for the sober mind. Later in his career, he would also use psilocybin, ketamine and ibogaine to facilitate psychotherapy. In the Netherlands, Bastiaans was best known for the documentary “Begrijpt u nu waarom ik huil?” (1969) which documents the treatment of a traumatized concentration camp survivor using LSD. While figures such as Timothy Leary, Humphrey Osmond and Stanislav Grof are considered household names in the history of psychedelics and psychotherapy, Bastiaans is equally deserving of recognition and discussion, despite the substantial criticism he has received from the psychiatric community. To highlight the historic, medical and societal aspects of Bastiaans’ work with psychedelics, we are joined by two speakers with extensive knowledge on this subject: medical historian Leo van Bergen and professor of psychiatry Eric Vermetten. After their talks, there will be a film screening of the aforementioned documentary (runtime: 1 hour - English subtitles), followed by drinks. In the period following its rediscovery in the 1970s, MDMA soon gained a reputation as a powerful adjunct for psychotherapy. In 1985 in the US (and 1988 in the Netherlands), MDMA was scheduled as a controlled substance, effectively stemming all research and most therapeutic use. Since the mid 2000s, research and clinical interest into the therapeutic potential of MDMA has increased significantly and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy is on track to become a licensed treatment in several years. What do we know about the therapeutic use of this substance? Who may benefit from treatment, and what would such treatment look like? How can MDMA-assisted psychotherapy be integrated into mental health care? These questions, and others, will be addressed by several international experts in the field. - [Recent advances in clinical research with LSD and MDMA](https://apra.science/events/recent-advances-in-clinical-research-with-lsd-and-mdma/) - APRA's first Journal Club! - [Psilocybin Treatment in Patients with Treatment-Resistant Depression](https://apra.science/events/psilocybin-treatment-in-patients-with-treatment-resistant-depression/) - Lecture by Renske Blom (MD) and Metten Somers (MD, PhD) - [Prolonged Intake of Psychedelics: Tolerance and Other Sequelae](https://apra.science/events/prolonged-intake-of-psychedelics-tolerance-and-other-sequelae-lecture-by-tobias-buchborn-laura-kaertner/) - Lecture by Tobias Buchborn (Dipl.
